The Hotel Vincent Photo ~ Saginaw, Michigan by Steve Sloan
The Hotel Vincent was located on South Washington Avenue and Federal
Avenue
. It was developed and constructed for members of the Saginaw’s Hill family. These included Clarence Hill and James Vincent who was Clarence and Arthur’s brother-in-law.
The Hotel Vincent, an elegant five-story structure was designed by W.T. Cooper, a noted Saginaw architect who also designed the Saginaw Club down the street on North Washington Avenue. The Hotel Vincent opened its doors in January 1891 with much fanfare. In April 1918, during World War I, Germania Avenue’s name was changed to Federal due to nationwide anti-German sentiment.
The Hotel Vincent was acquired by another noted Saginaw family, the Eddy family, in 1919. it was demolished to make way for a planned fourteen-story hotel and apartment structure. The Great Depression caused those plans to be discarded and in 1932 the current two-story portion was built to lease to Goodyear Tire Company.
This photo has been restored and improved by
Steve Sloan. This photo only focuses on the bottom left part of the Vincent Hotel itself. The last two photos on the bottom are a sample of what it looks like as a whole.
