The 4TH VIRGINIA CAVALRY is the seventeenth volume in "The Virginia Regimental Histories Series" of 100 volumes. Each volume in this remarkable series traces the history of a Virginia Unit and of

who was a member of that unit in the American Civil War. The 4th Regiment Virginia Cavalry was organized in 1861 and rode and fought with General Lee's Army of Northern Virginia until the surrender at Appomattox Court House. The regiment suffered 208 deaths during the four years of its service to the war. Astonishingly, this regiment never surrendered. The men simply rode out to Lynchburg, disbanded and went home, never stacking their arms or surrendering their colors. The 4th distinguished itself as one of the best among all the Cavalry Corps and carved a prominent niche for itself in Confederate history. The book contains an extensive bibliography of both the primary and secondary sources consulted. And the name, rank and some personal information about every man who served in the unit. Illustrated with photographs. The book is LIKE NEW with virtually no flaws. The boards are immaculate as are the endpapers and all interior pages. The white dust jacket is clean as a whistle and just as crisp. Perhaps the slightest age-tanning along the foredge. The author has penned an inscription on the title page but it is not personalized. It simply says "Hope this gives you a feeling of our heritage." Then signed and dated "2 Feb. '88".
