As an American youth in 1980, I was privileged to travel to Austria, Germany, and the German Democratic Republic, including a journey to Berlin via the autobahn known as the Berlin Corridor. At that time, there were two countries named Germany--one was a thriving landscape in free Western Europe and the other was communist, a Soviet stronghold. That was the way things had always been when I was 20, that was the way they'd probably always be. Little did I know that in slightly less than a decade, these two countries would be reunified.
This image is one of many that I took that depict life in Pre-Unification Europe.
The jpeg file available for download is 4000 dpi, suitable for printing up to 16" x 20". The original image was taken by me in June 1980 with a 35 mm film camera using Kodachrome slide film. The edge of the slide mounting is visible on most files because it's kind of cool to keep the image in its context, the way you would see them projected on a screen.
The colors are true to the original slide image, and Mother Nature has provided a softening of the hues in keeping with the age of the slides. No sharpening has been done--these photos are what they are.
These images are only available for personal use. If you want to do something with them that you are planning to sell, let me know so that we can work something out. Do not print the images and re-sell them outright without my consent. I know you wouldn't do that, but I have to say it anyway.
