    ================================
    John Gill of Baltimore, his younger brother Somerville and
    their
    cousin George Gill were caught up in the furor of the times in 1861. They decided to fight for the Confederacy. After 4 years of fighting, Somerville and George had given their lives for
    their
    beliefs
    . John was wounded, nearly died of disease, was paroled (and taken prisoner after his parole), but finally made it back home to Maryland.
    Gill served with the 1st Maryland Cavalry, Confederate. He acted as a courier for the most part - his first post was with Fitzhugh Lee. He spent most of his time in the
    Shenandoah
    Valley. After the war, he received a letter of commendation from Fitz Lee.
    This book is comprised of his personal memoirs, undiscovered until they were published with the help of Colonel Swank.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Col. Walbrook Swank wrote 23 books on the Civil War. His works are well regarded and many were on subjects not covered by other authors.
