    Description

This is a vintage Comet 1/17 (or 2/3"=1') balsa scale flying model of a P38 Lightning from World War Two.
This is Comet kit #3504, from about 1974,  and kit is really old school, with few plastic parts, some balsa blocks from which to shape spinners and nose cone, and printed balsa sheet parts  --  not die-cut.  98% of the kit is balsa wood.   The kit does have all plans, parts and decals, but even the decals are old school  -- they are just printed on thin paper  -- not slip and slide.
This kit has been started, which has a plus side. The original owner has cut out almost all of the balsa wood parts, so there is very little of that tedious work to do.  However, the previous owner also started one of the booms and the fuselage.  I have inventoried all the used and cutout parts and I believe the kit has 100% of its balsa wood parts.  If I missed something, since it is balsa wood, it is very easy to make a substitute part.  The few plastic parts are still sealed in their original factory baggy. The cockpit canopy is not preformed, and you have to shape it over formers from the provided flat sheet.
The plans are complete and seem to have the shapes of all parts in case there is a missing one or you break one.   The plans are in both English and German.
The kit is listed as rubber powered, and contains the original rubber.  I think many builders beef up these Comet models into RC models with electric or very small gas engines.
