Very scarce ORIGINAL 1879 book entitled “TOUR AROUND THE WORLD BY GENERAL GRANT".  This book documents in great detail a world tour taken by Grant after winning the Civil War and soon after he completed his 2 terms as president of the United States.
It was heralded at the time as one of the most important events in history, and he was received like a king everywhere. The trip was followed closely by all the newspapers of the day, and important enough to merit this book. WRITTEN IN 1879, close to the event itself, SO IT IS AS CONTEMPORARY AND EARLY A HISTORY AS POSSIBLE.
Complete, detailed Table of Contents, containing 19 chapters covering the tour, and IT IS LOADED WITH ILLUSTRATIONS.   SO MUCH, AND IN SUCH DETAIL THAT I CAN"T EVEN GIVE A COMPLETE INDICATION OF THE SUBJECTS COVERED !! AND AGAIN, ALL DESCRIPTIONS ARE WITH THE CONTEMPORARY PERSPECTIVE, WRITTEN AS THEY WERE HAPPENING.  All in INCREDIBLE DETAIL.
Has owner's name written in inside, "J.B. Woodhull".
Hardbound, and beautifully bound in original soft leather.
Also has ads for other books in the back, including one on SEXUAL SCIENCE......outlines the detail, and written by a doctor. Must have been interesting content for those times!!
Anyway, book is extremely interesting reading and it goes into phenomenal historical detail and activities and WAS WRITTEN AND PUBLISHED AT THE TIME IT WAS HAPPENING in 1879. An impressive, thick 810 pages long, and measuring  8 3/4" x 7" x 3" thick. The pages are excellent, the covers are loose (but can be repaired if desired), and the binding is fair.
Incredible amount and breadth of information included here. Reads well and is a PHENOMENAL, INTERESTING, & GREAT CONTEMPORY REFERENCE & RESOURCE SOURCE ABOUT GRANT AND THIS MAJOR WORLD TOUR AND VISITS WITH ALL THE WORLD LEADERS OF THE TIME.. Written while it was happening and with that perspective. An absolutely great book !!!
